Anatomy of a Heart after God: Humility

Aug. 22

Proverbs 28:13 “If you hide your sins, you will not succeed. If you confess and reject them, you will receive mercy.”

2 Sam. 12: 9-10 Why did you despise the word of the Lord by doing what is evil in his eyes? You struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword and took his wife to be your own. You killed him with the sword of the Ammonites. Now, therefore, the sword will never depart from your house, because you despised me and took the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your own.’

Matt. 5:27-28 You have heard the commandment that says, ‘You must not commit adultery.’ But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Sin is the problem with the world

Sin means to miss the mark

Matthew 12:36 But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken.

James 4:17 If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.

We all stand guilty before God. We all hurt ourselves and others and the world

Sin is the problem with the world

Romans 6;6-17 We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin.

How do we get free from the power of sin?

1 John 1:8-9 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. f we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Ps. 51:1-4 Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight; so you are right in your verdict and justified when you judge.

Ps. 51:8 Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice.
Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity. Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me

Heb. 8:12 For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sin no more

Rom. 8:1 Therefore there is now on condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus

God’s forgiveness brings freedom

Ps. 51: My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise.
