Convince Me… Moral Argument

Why do you believe in God?

It’s not about the fight. It’s about the find.

Questioning is an in between stage – not a final stage

Minds are like parachutes good to be open

But eventually you’ll need to land

2 Tim. 3:7-8 always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth… these teachers oppose the truth. They are people of depraved minds, who, as far as the faith is concerned, are rejected.

In order to truly live you need to land somewhere with God

Jerm. 29:12-14 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declares the Lord

God is the best explanation of Love/ Justice

We are most alive when we find it, most devastated when we lose it, most empty when we give up on it, most inhumane when we betray it, most passionate when we pursue it. Erwin McManus

There is at bottom no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but pointless indifference. … We are machines for propagating DNA. … It is every living object’s sole reason for being. Richard Dawkins

To say that moral values objective is to say they are valid and binding independent of human opinion. For example, to say that the Holocaust was objectively evil is to say it was evil even though the Nazis who carried it out thought it was good. And it would still have been evil even if the Nazis had won World War II and succeeded in brainwashing or exterminating everyone who disagreed with them, so everybody who was left thought the Holocaust was good. William Lane Craig

My argument against God was that the universe seemed so cruel and unjust. But how had I got this idea of just and unjust? A man does not call a line crooked unless he has some idea of a straight line. What was I comparing this universe with when I called it unjust? If the whole show was senseless from A to Z, so to speak, why did I, who was supposed to be part of the show, find myself in such a violent reaction against it?… Of course I could have given up my idea of justice by saying it was nothing but a private idea of my own. But if I did that, then my argument against God collapsed too–for the argument depended on saying the world was really unjust, not simply that it did not happen to please my fancies. Thus, in the very act of trying to prove that God did not exist – in other words, that the whole of reality was senseless – I found I was forced to assume that one part of reality – namely my idea of justice – was full of sense. If the whole universe has no meaning, we should never have found out that it has no meaning: just as, if there were no light in the universe and therefore no creatures with eyes, we should never have known it was dark. Dark would be without meaning. C.S. Lewis

What is the best explanation for Love and Justice?

It is because the cosmos is meaningless that we must secure our individual illusions of values, direction, and interest by upholding the artificial streams H.P. Lovecraft

Atheistic story: We are lied to by our genes

You were made for love because God who created you is love

You know what justice feels like because your creator is just

Romans 2:14-15 Even Gentiles, who do not have God’s written law, show that they know his law when they instinctively obey it, even without having heard it. They demonstrate that God’s law is written in their hearts, for their own conscience and thoughts either accuse them or tell them they are doing right.

God is the best explanation for love and justice
