Resilience

APA Psychologists define resilience as the process of adapting well in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy, threats, or significant sources of stress

APA Resilience isn’t necessarily a personality trait that only some people possess. On the contrary, resilience involves behaviors, thoughts, and actions that anyone can learn and develop.

Joseph

Gen. 37:3-4 Now Israel loved Joseph more than any of his other sons, because he had been born to him in his old age; and he made an ornate robe for him. When his brothers saw that their father loved him more than any of them, they hated him and could not speak a kind word to him.

Gen. 39:1-2 Now Joseph had been taken down to Egypt. Potiphar, an Egyptian who was one of Pharaoh’s officials, the captain of the guard, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him there. The Lord was with Joseph so that he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master.

God was with Joseph

God does not make us immune from life  (Life is hard God is good)

John 16:33 I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.

John 16:7, 13 Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you… But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth.

Isaiah 41:10 do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Seeing where God is key to resilient lives

Psalm 139:7-10 Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.

God, you are with me

Meet me in my pain

God, you were with me

“Inner healing is allowing God to replace pictures in the art gallery of our minds, substituting pictures that do not have him in them with pictures that do. If we look back at a painful scene and Jesus was not there, that is a lie. Jesus is always present. We need to replace the lie, Jesus wasn’t there, with the truth, Jesus was there moving, loving, healing.”

God, thank you for being with me!
