Testimony Sunday: God’s Good Work

Who do you want to be?
Whose do you want to be?

Ephesians 2:8-10 (ESV)
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

x our work does not earn our salvation/life with God

Ö we are God’s work, his creation

Ö given good work to do by God

We are not saved by works, but God’s work in us means we are set up for the good work he has planned for us.

“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus”

-ποίημα (poiēma): workmanship refers back to Genesis, God created the world, our God

is Creator, same creative power is being used to form us now

-re-created, new creation (2 Cor. 5:17)
-through what Jesus did for us
in Christ: now a part of him, members of his body Him as the head (Eph. 1:22-23)

“for good works, which God prepared beforehand,”

-His plan – from eternity

“that we should walk in them.”

-περιπατέω (peripateō) to walk; conduct ones life

-way of life, not just a checklist

-walk with God

You are God’s creation, created to do the good work He has planned for you. This good work becomes our way of life as we walk with Him.

Cultivate a sense of God’s voice on your own, and in community.
-daily time in the Bible and prayer, be in community – Sunday services, small groups

If you are on the way to God, maybe the purpose of life is a question you wrestle with – we are made for Him, to have purpose in Him.
